Fantastic Planet (1973)

René Laloux directs Jean Valmont, Eric Baugin and Jennifer Drake in this sci-fi animated philosophy lesson where big blue aliens treat us like pets and vermin on their strange allegorical land.

Very much of its time. The ideas and didactic optimism and corner cutting animation come from an era and attitude long forgotten. The design of it though is mind bending. Often nightmarish, kinky and highly influential. It kinda abandons the adventure aspects to reach its hippy dippy final point, which is a shame as there are times when the viciousness of the societies is quite rousing.
