Peter Bogdanovich directs Timothy Bottoms, Cybill Shepherd and Jeff Bridges in this coming of age tale set in an ennui crippled small Texas town.
Like Easy Rider, this is a film that bored me on previous watches. Pretty but bleak. Well cast but… well… really bleak. The kids make mistakes that will define their lives. The adults are still making those mistakes only with the knowledge there is nothing else really to do. Bogdanovich churns up enough gorgeous monochrome imagery and moments of truth from the female half of the ensemble, that I’m willing to correct my low opinion of it.
